A registered sexual offender faces a felony charge after it was discovered that he was in possession of more than 100 photos of nude underage girls on his computer.
Rene Harvey, 73, of Lebanon, is charged with a class C felony of possession of child pornography. Harvey is being held in the Laclede County Jail with no bond, according to online court records.
Harvey was believed to be a flight risk because it was discovered that he had purchased a ticket for a flight to the Philippines scheduled for Tuesday, according to a probable cause statement released by the Laclede County Prosecuting Attorney’s office.
An investigation of Harvey, who was convicted of sexual abuse in the first degree in 1993, began in July 31, 2011 by the Lebanon Police Department. A child under the age of 10 had accused Harvey of sexual misconduct. The child’s mother told the police that she had allowed the child to go over to Harvey’s home before she knew he was a registered sex offender. When she found out, she asked her child if there had been any inappropriate contact with Harvey.
