A two-year project to replace a bridge on Nation Drive near Conway is nearing an end, and the bridge could be open for traffic by the end of the month.
Laclede County Eastern Commissioner Joe Pickering said Wednesday the engineers expect work to be completed on Tuesday. After that, the bridge’s opening will depend on how soon it can be inspected by the Missouri Department of Transportation, Pickering said.
MoDOT ordered the bridge closed after it failed a safety inspection in late 2010. Since then, area residents and a school bus have faced a detour of as much as 18 miles. Nation Drive runs north-south between routes J and ZZ and is one of the more heavily traveled roads in Conway Special Road District No. 2.
