Planning for the 2013 Miss and Little Miss Merry Christmas pageants is currently under way.
All Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade girls are eligible to compete for the title of Little Miss Merry Christmas, and all 9th through 12th grade girls may compete for the title of Miss Merry Christmas.
The winners and runners-up in each category will receive prizes. The winner of the Miss Merry Christmas pageant will receive a $500 scholarship.
The Little Miss candidates are required to participate in a community service project by creating a holiday greeting for a Laclede County senior citizen. For this, a Community Service Award will be presented. These are to be made by the child and should be age appropriate.
According to the pageant committee the goal is to encourage the participants to remember others at the holiday season.
Applications will be available starting Monday at the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce office, Page Printing and the School of Performing Arts. The entry deadline is Nov. 22, or until the maximum number of participants in each age category is reached.
The pageants will take place on Dec. 7 in the theater of the Kenneth E. Cowan Civic Center in Lebanon. The Little Miss pageant will begin at 3 p.m., followed by the Miss pageant 7 p.m.
Tickets for the pageants also go on sale at the above-mentioned locations on Monday.
