Demolition derby fans will be packing the Kenneth E. Cowan Civic Center Saturday for the first round of the Monster Energy Mad Dog Demolition Derby Tour.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the first heat beginning at 7 p.m.

There will be two divisions - full size cars and compact cars. Drivers will be competing in heats until the last car is still running.

There will be a track party at 6 p.m., which gives fans an opportunity to get close to the cars and meet the drivers. Any fan with a ticket can also meet The Monster Energy Girls and Ned Dirt the racing clown. Ned Dirt will give children free rides in his Ned Dirt Mobile and perform during the show.

Saturday's event will feature drivers from across the Midwest and will include local driver Charlie Darnell, who placed third in last year's event.

"He'll be competing against some really hard hitters. He's a hard hitter, too, but he'll be competing against hard hitters from Iowa, Illinois, Kansas and Missouri," said Jay Reynolds, event coordinator.

There are more than 60 cars pre-entered in the event.

"Which is huge. We're one of the only winter demolition derbies," Reynolds said.
