Syria losing national heritage in ISIS’ cultural destruction

The Jewish historian, Josephus, writes in “Antiquities of the Jews 8.6” about a city in central Syria northeast of Damascus and southwest of the Euphrates River called Tadmor which was built and fortified by King Solomon. It became a vital caravan city and was known as the Bride of the Desert. The Greeks called it Palmyra, meaning Palm Tree. It was mentioned as far back as the 2nd millenium BC and It eventually became an important trade route linking Persia, India, China and the Roman Empire.

Killer took advantage of ‘sanctuary’

Kathryn Steinle, 32 years old, was brutally murdered last week while walking on Pier 14 in San Francisco with her father. Her killer has been identified as Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez. Sanchez has confessed to the random shooting.
