Mid-life crisis

When I turned 40 and didn’t automatically become decrepit as expected, I redefined my definition of middle age. You’re allowed to do that, you see. Even the great Wikipedia won’t dare actually assign numbers to the stages of our lives, no doubt in its wisdom recognizing that some 35-year-olds are older at heart than some 85-year-olds.

At the time of this writing Thursday evening, I haven’t had a cigarette since Sunday afternoon. This is kind of a big deal.

Working from son up to son down

When my husband and I found out we were expecting in late 2010, we got right to work preparing. I watched him become a champion crib-builder and master assembler of all things. I dusted off my acrylics to get working on a nursery mural, and started on some serious research.

Order aims to strengthen gun control

If you are a gun owner who receives a Social Security disability check from the U.S. Treasury but you have chosen, for whatever reason, to have someone help you manage your finances, whether you are just forgetful or not good at keeping your checkbook balanced, and have asked for help from a family member or another fiduciary, the Obama administration has a plan in the works to take your guns away from you.

Was the NRA created to help freed slaves?

According to National Black Chamber of Commerce President, CEO and co-founder Harry Alford, the National Rifle Association was created to help freed slaves. (See video at left.)
