Coroner’s request for grant writer fails

The Laclede County Commission discussed a grant request Tuesday from Coroner Steve Murrell but failed to take action when a motion died for lack of a second.

The coroner approached the county commission with grants that would provide training and meet stricter certification requirements for the coroner’s office.

A motion by Eastern District Commissioner Joe Pickering to start the process of hiring a grant writer to fill out applications for the Laclede County Coroner’s office died when it failed to receive a second.

Western Commissioner Darrell Pollock said he had concerns about the federal government’s role in the grant.
