A group of women from Fort Leonard Wood visited Bennett Spring State Park on Friday to tour the hatchery and try their hand at fly fishing before they were scheduled to visit several businesses in the Lebanon area.

The women were participating in a Fort Leonard Wood Community Spouses Club caravan, an outing that was jointly planned by the Fort Leonard Wood Community Spouses Club and and the Friends of the Fort Committee of the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce.

Friends of the Fort committee member Judy Fortner explained that Friends of the Fort is a committee within the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce, and its purpose is to build relationships between Lebanon and Fort Leonard Wood.

“The basic reason is to tie the bonds and fill the needs that Fort Leonard Wood might have and support Fort Leonard Wood and the military,” she stated.

Fortner said that the Fort Leonard Wood Community Spouses Club periodically join forces with entities such area chambers of commerce or tourism departments to organize trips to communities near the fort.
