"He knows when you've been bad or good..."

Friends of Alva Hazell know that when he seems very sincere, it may be time to doubt his veracity and wonder about the sparkle in his eye.
When he discussed his ongoing work as a Santa helper in his fancy red suit, he seemed just as genuine as that sparkle.
According to Hazell, for almost six decades, he has helped Santa in a variety of locales, a job he wanted to do ever since he grew his first beard just after college.
“The basic truth is I have known Santa for probably over 60 years. I’ve known him personally and visit with him on a regular basis. I do assist him,” Hazell said.
Hazell looks forward to the Christmas season and everything that comes with it. As a Santa helper, he listens to kids as they tell him and any eavesdropping parents what they want for Christmas.
Hazell said he first met Santa in the Heer’s building when he was seven.
“He was upstairs, and I went up and talked to him for a little bit,” Hazell said.
