JEB gets SEMA grant for storm shelter
The Joel E. Barber School District has received word it will receive a State Emergency Management Agency grant for a storm shelter.
Superintendent Tina Nolan said the district does not have a lot of information at this point, but she expects to learn more at an orientation meeting in Jefferson City. That meeting will take place some time in the next 30 days.
“We’re very excited,” Nolan said. “We think this will be very beneficial to our community.”
The time table for construction is still unknown, but Nolan said the school district is happy to see the process started.
Plans call for a multipurpose building that will be available to the public in the event of a storm, according to Nolan. She said the building would include a gymnasium that could be used for many activities, including physical education, practices, rehearsals and recess.
