Local man hurt in Interstate 44 wreck

A Niangua man was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 5:20 a.m. Saturday at the 117 mile marker on Interstate 44.
 
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Brett M. Kays, 19, of Niangua, the driver of a westbound 1994 Dodge 3500 was parked in the right lane and was struck in the rear by a westbound 2000 Ford F350 driven by Kenneth A. Spencer, 42, of Waukesha, Wis.
 
Both vehicles traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck the median cables.
 
The Kays vehicle came to rest in the roadway. Kays was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital Springfield, with what the Highway Patrol described as serious injuries.
 
All were reportedly wearing seat belts.
