Motel managers run off with cash, property

Laclede County Sheriff's Office

The managers of a Conway motel allegedly slipped away in the night, taking more than $1,000 in cash and property with them.

Benny Wineinger of West Plains, the senior property manager of the Budget Inn Motel at 101 Martingale Drive in Conway, called the Laclede County Sheriff’s office Monday when he could not contact his property managers, who live at the motel, on a business matter.

According the report filed by a deputy, Wineinger traveled to the motel over the weekend and found the front doors locked and his employees gone.

Their apartment in the motel had been emptied of their personal belongings. Also missing was $1,089.62 from the front desk, a power washer and a leaf blower. The report said other items could be missing because the building’s exact contents were unknown.
