R-3 denied SEMA grant

The Lebanon R-3 School District failed to get approval for a grant that would have helped fund a storm shelter, but school officials haven’t given up on the idea yet.

Brad Armstrong, assistant superintendent, said the district learned earlier this month that its State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) grant application was not chosen to move forward. This grant would have provided funds for a storm shelter and gymnasium building at the Maplecrest Elementary School.

“We’re disappointed we were not chosen,” Armstrong said. “It’s a competitive process. We’re happy for those who were chosen, including the Joel E. Barber District. We celebrate with them.”
