R-4 asks parents to take online survey

Richland R-4 School District officials are asking parents to let them know how they are doing.

The school district is asking the district’s parents to fill out a survey about the culture and quality of its schools. The survey can be found on the school website home page: www.richlandbears.us on the left hand side, under the tab “parent survey.”

Richland School Superintendent Doug Smith said the reason for the survey is to see how parents feel about the district in areas such as activities, safety, academics and the overall culture.

He said anyone with a child attending K-12 classes in Richland is welcome to respond.

“We want to be as transparent and up front as possible,” he said. “We want everyone to feel welcome in the school district.”

A statement on the website says that the survey is simple to complete. Also, anyone who doesn’t have Internet access or just prefers pencil and paper, can request a hard copy to fill out.

The survey asks parents if they believe the school district is doing an excellent job teaching subjects. They are asked to respond by choosing five objects ranging from “strongly agree” to “strongly disagree.” Parents are also asked about the school district’s extracurricular activities, class sizes, educational services, resources and facilities. Other topics include the school disciplinary system, diversity of the district, school staff and school decisions.

Smith said the school district will take survey responses until the end of the school year. Once the results are tabulated, he expects them to be placed on the school board’s agenda and reported on at a future meeting.

Smith said that so far, 65 people have completed the survey and the district would like to have more responses. “We hope to get as many people to finish the survey as possible,” Smith said.
