Tractor drivers compete at fair

Mason Rodden, 9, of Richland, rides his lawn tractor Crash in the Tuesday evening tractor pull.

Intrepid drivers, perched over tires with deep, hungry tread, eyed the track and looked for dirt too soft to give good traction.

Tension mounted in hearts and on lawn tractor drive belts as the moveable weight on the sled eased forward. Lawn tractor engines roared and antique tractor wheels rose at the end of their runs.

This was the tractor pull at the Laclede County Fair.

Both adults and children drove tractors big and small. The green and the orange and the red paint of the antique tractors and many of the lawn or garden tractors added to the spectacle.

Mason Rodden, 9, from Richland, predicted he would win his lawn tractor pull division. He has three lawn tractors, and they have names: Crash, Rebel Child and Locked and Loaded.

He has competed in lawn tractor pulls since he was five.
