WAYNESVILLE — The third time was the charm for the Lebanon boys’ basketball team as the Yellowjackets posted a 65-54 win over Springfield Central in the opening round of the Missouri Class 5 District 10 tournament on Tuesday at Waynesville High School.
The win was the first in three tries for Lebanon against the Bulldogs as the ‘Jackets previously dropped the seventh-place game at the Catholic Tournament and a regular-season contest in Springfield.
Things got off to a shaky start for the ‘Jackets on Tuesday against Central as well as the Bulldogs held a 12-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and were ahead 18-8 after hitting consecutive 3-pointers to open the second quarter.
But Lebanon got things on track offensively as Quenton Shelton scored with 5:45 remaining in the half to start a 11-0 run. His basket was followed by a three-point play by Junior Torres, another basket by Shelton and Torres and a basket by Jack Ehrhardt as Lebanon took a 20-17 lead.
