A longtime Laclede County manufacturer is expanding its powder coating and assembly operations to the former Detroit Tool and Engineering building on West Elm Street.

Darrel and Dana Bishop, owners of Metaltech Products Inc., Powder Paint Inc. and Midwest Enclosures Inc., have purchased the 113,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at 441 W. Elm St. in Lebanon. The final paperwork was finished Thursday.

Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.

The Powder Paint operation that currently has a facility on north Mo. 5 will move to the Lebanon site, and a new powder-paint system with a five-stage pretreatment system will go into the facility. The building also will offer the space for Metaltech and Midwest Enclosures to move their assembly work there.

“We were looking at maybe building a new building and then found out a little about (the former DTE facility),” Darrel Bishop said Thursday afternoon. “We looked at it and decided it would work for what we were wanting to do.”
