Summer school isn’t what it used to be.

From the feedback the Lebanon R-3 School District has received so far, that is a good thing.

This is the first summer of Summer Experience wherein the focus has changed.

“We wanted it to be more of a fun learning experience and maybe have more of a camp feel and more creative class offerings,” said Director of Communications Jacy Overstreet. “It has always been something that’s been dreaded, but we’ve heard from so many teachers that their kids in their classes from the last school year were so excited to go to Summer Experience.”

Kids are not the only ones who are excited. For the first time in years, teachers have a lot of freedom in the choice and content of their classes.

“Teachers got to pitch experience and class ideas. They got to apply and kind of dream up what they wanted to teach and create their dream class,” Overstreet said.
