Councilman says Council took away voters’ rights

One Lebanon City Councilman has made clear his opposition to the new mayor’s term of office.

“My concern is city council overstepped our authority when appointing the new mayor to serve until April 2020.  In doing so the right of the citizens to vote on the mayor was taken away.  The legalities involved in this vote are still under review.  Potentially the vote has now set Lebanon up for even more litigation instead of bringing stability to the city,” Ward 2 Councilman James White wrote in an email to the Daily Record.

When the Lebanon City Council voted to have Mayor Jared Carr’s term of office run until the end of former Mayor Josh Ray’s term in April 2020, White cast the only no vote. At the time, White said his opposition was to the term.
