An area woman who survived domestic violence years ago has realized a longtime dream of sharing what she learned from her experiences.

K.D. Ester had long wanted to publish a book to let others people know how to escape from an abusive relationship. That book, “Standing in the Shadows,” is now available on amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com.

She said her book includes warning signs of an abusive relationship, inspirational quotes and references as well as emergency telephone numbers where victims of domestic violence can find help.

Ester explained what she would like readers to take away from her book.

“To never give up, to believe in yourself and the most important thing is they (domestic violence victims) always feel like it’s their fault, but it’s not your fault,” she said. “It is not OK or normal to be beaten.”

Ester, 65, is writing from experience. She says she grew up in an abusive home and as a young woman she was married to a man who beat her.
