A more than 50-year holiday tradition of giving will continue this year with the Lebanon Kiwanis Club’s Shop With Kids Christmas   program.
Sean Clearbrook, who heads up the program for the Kiwanis Club, said volunteers are still needed to shop with kindergarten through 8th grade kids from all Laclede County schools on Dec. 5, 6 and 7.
Clearbrook said he signed up to volunteer for the program before joining Kiwanis some 20 years ago and found the experience had a real impact on him.
“The first kid I ever shopped with, he didn’t have any socks on, he had a bloody foot, a piece of metal in his tennis shoe was irritating him day after day. The boy didn’t have any underwear on and it was heartbreaking,” he said. “So I spent my time volunteering and was humbled by it all. I went back to work thinking how amazing an event it was, especially since I had grown up in poverty myself, so I volunteered for the next few years and eventually became a Kiwanian, and later took over the program.”
