Local Lebanon gym owner Tricia Grunwaldt recently competed in the Natural Athlete Strength Association in Joplin on November 25.

According to the NASA website, it says “NASA puts on (and travels to) powerlifting meets in over twenty states and has been since the very beginning. State, Regional, Open and Grand meets are there for the inexperienced lifter who is just now getting their feet wet in the whole notion of the sport of powerlifting so that they can better themselves and find out what everything’s all about.”

Grunwaldt said that she was preparing specifically for the event for about six months, but was able to get a head start by doing CrossFit and strength programs.

Grunwaldt and her husband Nick are the owners and coaches at CrossFit 610 in Lebanon, located on North Highway 5 next to EZ Disposal.

During the competition, Grunwaldt in her first ever powerlifting competition, broke five state records for the events she entered. She set records in the squat (245 pounds), bench press (115 pounds), deadlift (319 pounds), powerlifting total (679 pounds) and push/pull total (434 pounds).
