George Daniel Wissinger, 81, of Springfield, formerly of Lebanon, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, in his home.
He was born March 6, 1936, at Brixey, Mo. to Fred Edward and Lena Wissinger.
George Daniel  Wissinger was preceded in death by his father, mother, and his sister, Ina May Booth.
On Feb. 19, 1960 he married Thelma Lindsay, of Lebanon. They moved to Springfield to make their home. During their married years, he worked in banking and insurance sales.
In his teens, his family moved to Lebanon where he graduated from Lebanon High School in 1955. “Dan,’’ as he was known by his friends and family, worked in truck driving from his very early teens where he began traveling with his dad and later had his own truck and drove on his own. He also worked as a purchasing agent for Rich Line boat manufacturing in Richland.
At the age of 21, Dan did basic training for the military in San Antonio, Texas and then was in the National Guard for a short time.
Dan was involved in preaching the gospel most of his fife. He served as an elder of the Mission Hills Church of Christ of many years. In later years, he worked with three Churches of Christ at Eldon, Montreal and Brumley.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Thelma; his children, Jeffrey, of Kansas City; Janet Crouch (Jim), of Irving, Texas, and Julie Stephens (Tracy), of College Grove, Tenn.; his sister, Veta King, of Lebanon;  his brother, John and sister-in-law, Janice; six grandchildren, Lindsay Crouch Bowen (Don), Stuart Crouch, Monica Crouch Carr (Benjamin), Bailey Stephens, Carter Stephens, and Sterling Stephens; five great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, and many beloved friends.
Funeral services for George Daniel Wissinger will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at Greenlawn Funeral home East, 3540 E. Seminole in Springfield.  Burial will be in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens.
