If you have been an avid fan of southwest Missouri basketball over the years, then the two names that Lebanon High School activities director Will Christian announced on Wednesday morning as the new basketball coaches for LHS should ring a bell.

Former Lebanon boys’ basketball coach Jacky Payne was named the Lebanon girls’ basketball coach while former Parkview head coach Billy Brown was named the Lebanon boys’ basketball coach.

The Lebanon R-3 School Board unanimously approved both hires.

Payne comes into the job after serving two years as a varsity assistant for the boys’ team. In his 35 years of coaching experience, Payne has secured 569 wins as a head coach and was inducted into the Missouri Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2009.

After a three-year hiatus from the coaching scene, Brown will step into a program that started three sophomores and two juniors a year ago.

He has 231 head coaching wins in his career and spent two years as the head coach at Richland before making his way back to his alma mater of Parkview High School where he coached for 13 years before resigning in 2015.
