The struggle is real for the Lebanon baseball team and the spring weather.

The Yellowjackets returned from a trip to Florida where they played four games only to run smack into Missouri spring weather. Each day this week has presented a new rain out and a new challenge for head coach Dustin Young and the coaching staff as the team tries to maintain Oley Scott Field and have it game ready.

Lebanon was slated to face Rolla on Thursday and Willard today, but both games were on the chopping block as the forecast remains dubious.

Young said he hopes the team can quickly regain the momentum it had after the ‘Jackets went 3-1 in Florida once they get back on the field.

“I felt like we had pretty good momentum the last couple of days we were in Florida, but Mother Nature did co-operate with that,” Young said.

Instead, the team has put together several strong practice and even got on the field on Wednesday for a quick workout before the weather settled in.

“We’ve been able to utilize the Fieldhouse and that is something that we are very fortunate to have, to be able to get looks off the pitching machine and have pitcher go off the mound,” Young said. “And we have enough area over the to take ground balls and play a little catch.

“Right now the big thing is to just keep kids focused and mix in some new things daily to eliminate the monotony that comes with being inside. I feel like the kids have had good attitudes and have come to work every day and that is all you can ask for this time of year.”
