Knight rolling for Bears as midweek starter

Missouri State junior Austin Knight is off to a solid start this season for the Missouri State Bears baseball team this season. Knight, a right-hander is off to a 3-1 start and has appeared in eight games, thrown 40 2/3 innings, allowed 33 hits and 13 runs. He has walked 15 and struck out 28 and has a 2.88 ERA.

A Lebanon graduate of 2014, Knight turned in 6 2/3 shutout innings to help get Missouri State their seventh consecutive victory with a 5-1 win over Missouri on Tuesday evening.

Knight was in control throughout an efficient 68-pitch outing, facing just one batter over the minimum throughout six innings. He would need just 55 pitches to complete the first six frames as he retired 15 Tigers in a row. He also had a start against the Tigers on April 18 in Columbia where he went five innings, allowing eight hits and two earned runs, but the Bears would ultimately defeat the Tigers, 5-3. A year ago, Knight made nine starts and 15 total mound appearances as a sophomore and went 5-2 with a 5.33 ERA. The Daily Record recently caught up with Knight to talk him about his season.
