In the second year of the program at the high school, the Lebanon boys’ swim team got insurmountably better from year one to year two as a program.

The team concluded its season with great performances from all swimmers at the Southwest Missouri Championships this past weekend.

According to head coach Jimmy Pierotti, preliminaries were held on October 20 with only the top swimmer and relay teams moving on to the championship round.

For the first time in program history, LHS advanced swimmers into the championship round. Three individual swimmers moved on, as well as three Jackets’ relay teams.

Advancing in individual events were senior Zack Sparks in the 100 free with 59:64, sophomore Thomas Cleveland in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:16.86, and sophomore Tim Behrick in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:17.40. The 200-medley relay team that advanced consisted of Zack Johnson swimming backstroke, Tim Behrick swimming breaststroke, Kyle Moore swimming butterfly and Zack Johnson swimming freestyle. The 200 free relay, with each swimmer swimming 50 yards, included Kyle Moore, Tim Behrick, Justin Martin and Zack Johnson. The 400 free relay team included Justin Martin, Conner Graves, Cody Martin and Thomas Cleveland, each swimming 100 yards.

No ‘Jacket swimmer or relay team medaled, but all had great performances and dropped time, according to Pierotti.

“All Lebanon swimmers, with hard work and great effort, continued in dropping time throughout the season, most dropping 5 to 15 seconds, getting faster and faster as the season progressed,” he said. “The future of Lebanon Yellowjacket swimming continues to progress. I’m looking forward to watching Lebanon becoming a powerhouse for swimming.

“In the coming year, coach Chris Williams of the Lebanon YMCA, with his excellent program, will be sending up some great swim mers ready to compete in the top rounds of competition.”
